Grand Mesa Thunder going to State, win 12-2 over OM

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- On Tuesday the Grand Mesa Thunder became the second team to qualify for the Little League state tournament.

Grand Mesa's 9 & 10 year-old girls' team mercy ruled Orchard Mesa 12-2 in four innings of play Tuesday night.

Grand Mesa swept the District 1 tournament. The state tournament begins on July 19th.

    I am extremely disappointed in who ever you are "Softball Fan". These are 9 and 10 year old girls who have poured their heart and soul into their game. I had the priviledge to watch the championship game and these girl gave 110% the whole time. Their coaches obviously know the game and are teaching them "TRUE" mechanics which is what ALL coaches should be teaching at this age. THUNDER...don't let anyone steal yours! Coaches, GREAT JOB coaching these ladies and win or lose at state, your girls have done a great job and their sportsmanship is truly heads above most. GOOD LUCK!

    Well said proud poppy. I know several of these little girls and they are very dedicated and have more heart and work so hard to be the best softball players they can be. I have followed several of the comments from all the little league coverage, and it seems that this group of girls is the only true "little league" team that has won a district championship. They are not part of any competitive team; they have not all played together until now and they have great coaches that are committed to teaching these girls the fundamentals of softball. Here is a message to the girls: Don’t let stupid comments bring you down, you girls continue to give your all and keep your heads up win or lose. Some people are just jealous that their child will not be going to the state tournament. Congradulations GM Thunder!

    Wow softball fan, way to put down a group of 9 and 10 year old girls.... its not about championships its about heart which this team has plenty of. Go get em girls
