HS BB: (1) Montrose defends top-rank, opens SWL play with shutout of Cortez

MONTROSE, Colo. Friday afternoon marked the 2014 opener of Southwestern League play for Montrose and Montezuma-Cortez.

After recently beating then-number one ranked Valor Christian, the Indians seized the top spot in the polls, and looked to defend that for the first time.

Kyle Freeburg was sent to the mound and threw a gem, allowing just one hit in the five-inning game. He also knocked in five RBI's, half of Montrose's runs.

Cortez has had a very solid season entering this one, with a 5-1-1 record, but couldn't make anything happen.

Montrose starts their SWL schedule with a convincing 10-0 win, and will take on Durango Saturday.
