HS Football: (10) Grand Junction preps for round one of playoffs

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Grand Junction Tigers have stayed in the top half of the rankings since the get-go. Their dominant offense brought the heat week after week, starting the season with three straight victories on the road against playoff teams. Now it's time to put that experience to use in the first round of the post-season set to begin on Friday.

The Tigers will be facing a 5-3 Westminster team that enters the playoffs as the 23 seed. It's been two years since these two have met on the field, when Grand Junction took a 50-14 win. But with time things change, and the Tigers are coming ready for anything.
After getting accustomed to a deep playoff run, Grand Junction fell short in the first round in 2012. Now they feel they're ready to take their game to a new level and bring their season into the 5A championship game November 30th.

"You don't know what's going to be your last play," said senior quarterback Tyler Heinsma, "so we're trying to be able to go out there and have no regrets."

"I feel like we're coming through nice," said senior Austin Lewis. "Everything's coming together at the right time. We're peaking slowly; we're climbing up that mountain coming toward the playoffs so that's always nice."

"The biggest thing is we need to adjust to being at home," said senior Theron Verna. "We do so well on the road, and we feel so backed in a corner when we go on the road, that we play really hard. I think when we come home we play soft. And I think one of the biggest things is we need to drive in the nail this week, it doesn't matter where we are, who we're playing, we've got to play as hard as we can."

The game is set for Friday night at Stocker Stadium at 7:00 PM.
