GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The Central Warriors football team hasn't had an easy journey in recent years, winning just 5 of their last 36 games.
Luckily CHSAAs Classification and League Organizing Committee [also known as CLOC] meets every two years to restructure an even playing field in high school classifications - taking school playdown requests into consideration.
With the 2014-2016 cycle set to begin in less than a year, Central high school put in a playdown request to move from Class 4A to Class 3A. On Tuesday CLOC approved their request.
In the past four seasons, Central has struggled to keep up with the competition of the SWL. Not only were they losing games, they were losing students to surrounding schools through the open enrollment opportunity.
Now they'll look to rebuild their program as a 3A team through this next two-year cycle.
they'll be dropped from the 4a/5a southwestern league and likely find a temporary home in the 3a western slope league [competing against teams such as delta...and glenwood springs - both of which are still in the playoff running].
