GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) One of this season's biggest games in Southwestern League football takes center stage at Stocker Stadium as 5A's 10th-ranked Grand Junction faces off against 4A's top-ranked Montrose.
The 5-2 Tigers will look to get back on track after suffering an unexpected loss to the 4A Durango Demons two weeks ago.
They had a bye week to reconvene and put in that extra practice time, but now it's go-time.
Montrose has been the top team ever since their win over Monarch in week five. They've continued to be an intimidating force on offense, averaging over 370 rushing yards per game. In doing so they've kept that perfect record, but the Tigers come ready to put up a fight with their own high-powered offense.
"Whenever we play Montrose we know they're going to be well-coached," said head coach Robbie Owens. "Their kids are going to play hard. They're having a great season, so they're going to be motivated to keep that number one ranking. And they're coming to our place, so I think after that loss we had two weeks ago our kids are motivated as well so it should be a good match-up."
The game takes place Thursday night at 7:00 pm at Stocker Stadium. Just two games remain for Grand Junction in the regular season, three for Montrose. For the Tigers it's crucial to finish on top in order to get that higher playoff seeding come the post-season, while the Indians look to avoid a move from the first place spot.
