HS Football: Montrose kicks off season in big way

By  |

MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) Last year the Montrose Indians met with the Vista Ridge Wolves and were pulverized by 30+ points.

This year was quite the opposite, as the 2012 Southwest League champions came out strong and fast, and never let up.

The Wolves got on the board first; after a mishandled punt gave them excellent field position, the Wolves' go-to guy out of the backfield, Jaquan Overbey scored from 14 yards out.

Immediately the home team countered.

After a quick march up the field...junior quarterback Kameron DeVincentis four Peter Shearer streaking up the field for a big touchdown in response.

The extra point make it 7-6 Montrose.

That's when things started clicking for the Indians.

Standout running back Angelo Youngren found the end zone twice, while notching two interceptions just in the first half.

They went into the locker room after two quarters with a 31-14 lead, and didn't take their foot off the gas.

Montrose avenges their loss from last year and wins their opening game of the season 47-22.
