HS Golf: Montrose finishes second at 4A state tournament

Colorado Springs, Colo. The 4A girls golf championships wrapped up Tuesday. Last season Montrose boasted the Class 4A golf state champion in senior Kala Keltz. This time around Montrose captured the regional tournament title and sent four to the state level.

Mikayla McKie, Brooke Brennecke, Chelsea Peterson and Jordan Cherry were the four qualifiers. Cherry got an early jump on state competition, finishing the first round in the top 15. She came back in the second and final day of competition with a fairly significant improvement, tying for sixth at 169.

McKie came in at 31st, Peterson at 40th, and Brenneck at 47th. Aly Shuman of Palisade tied for 63rd.

The Montrose Indians were also able to take second in the team competition, behind Cheyenne Mountain, the defending champions.
