HS Lacrosse: Tigers fall in foul-heavy playoff game

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - Round one of the 2013 girls lacrosse playoffs featured the (13) Grand Junction Tigers and (20) St. Mary's Wildcats.

It was an unforgettable game but not for the best reasons. The refs were getting full use out of their whistles, calling foul after foul with the majority of those calls falling on the Tigers' laps. Fair or not, that was how the evening played out.

In the first half, Grand Junction jumped to a quick lead and finished the 25-minutes of play on top 6-3. In the second, things started to take a turn for the worst. Though the Tigers never gave up the lead, high-scorer Megan Gromke was knocked out after receiving two yellow cards, and her team kept getting called out for fouls. This bump in the road allowed the Wildcats to catch up and tie the game, sending it into overtime.

In six minutes of OT, St. Mary's was able to pull ahead and take the win 11-9. They move on to the second round where they will face (4) Kent Denver.
