GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Grand Junction Tigers were there at the beginning, and they were there again at the end. Fruita Monument's boys basketball team won 25 consecutive league games after losing to Junction in 2009. That streak ended on Friday night at the hands of those very same Tigers.

Justin Whiting and Casey Burns led the Tigers to a 10-point lead after the opening quarter of Friday's "Highway 6&50 Showdown." Despite a late push by the Wildcats to pull within 5 points in the final minutes of the game, it was a lead that Junction would not give up. Burns had a team high 20, while Whiting netted 17. Drew Bridges poured in 24 points and Alex Padgett totaled 19 in the Wildcats 71-65 loss.

In the girls game, the Wildcats held a one-point advantage over the Tigers at the intermission. But the second half belonged to Jamie Derrieux and Junction. Derrieux led all scorers with 24 as the Tigers remained unbeaten in the league. 55-38 was the final tally.
