GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The hype was for real. Jayson Aquino was dominant for five innings on Thursday as the Rockies notched their first victory in the second half, 8-2 over the Owlz.

Aquino lasted 5.2 innings, but his sixth inning performance was shaky. He started out the inning by giving up a smash of a double to Joel Capote. After a ground-out and a sacrifice fly, Aquino walked the next two batters.

That was the end of his debut, but the five innings prior he allowed no earned runs from three hits, and he had six strikeouts.

The solid pitching helped the Rockies bats come alive, starting in the fifth. Matt Wessinger singled with two outs to score Correlle Prime for the Rox to take a two-run lead.

Grand Junction scored two more in the sixth, one in the seventh, and two in the eighth.

Thursday night's win is the first in the second half for Grand Junction, who are 22-21 on the year.
