GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Colorado Mesa women's lacrosse team has two vacancies to fill on their starting lineup.

The Lady Mavs will play their home-opener against Ft. Lewis on Friday afternoon without their leading scorer from last year, Rachel Sutton. Sutton is out with a knee injury that she suffered in the season opener at Regis. Coach Abby Simpson fears that if the injury is serious enough, Sutton, a preseason all-WILA player, will miss the remainder of the season.

The Mavs will also play without junior midfielder Amanda Simon, who will miss the remainder of the season due to an undisclosed reason.

"Without Rachel it's definitely going to be tough. She will be missed," Simpson told KKCO 11 Sports Director Phil Stafford.

"The girls are adjusting very well," she added.
