GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Marques Harris continues to give back to the city that he calls his hometown - Grand Junction, CO.
Harris is returning to the Western Slope in July for a weekend of giving back to the Grand Junction community.
On Friday, July 13th Harris will be hosting his 2nd Annual Golf Scramble at the Redlands Mesa Golf Course. All proceeds will benefit the Grand Junction High School football and wrestling programs.
As an alum from GJHS, Harris believes it's the most important thing for high-level athletes - himself being a former NFL player with the San Diego Chargers - to give back to their hometown communities.
"I feel like I was very blessed to be able to play in the NFL," Harris says, "and now I actually have a way to give back to the community."
The public is welcome to play in the tournament. There is a $150/person registration fee for each player until July 1st. After the first, the price will raise to $200/person. There is a limit of 50 teams/foursomes for the tournament, so enter quickly.
Registration forms can be found at www.marquesharris.com or contact Bud Glover at 970-241-5770 or firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
Celebrity athletes such as San Diego Charger Quinton Jammer and Denver Bronco Lance Ball will be participating in the tournament.
Registered players can bid for celebrity athletes to join their foursome at the early check-in and silent auction on July 12th at 7:00 pm. This event will be held at Allen Unique Autos in Grand Junction.
Prizes for the tournament winners include four tickets to the upcoming Superbowl!
On the day following the golf tournament, Harris is hosting is Football Kids Camp at Stocker Stadium. The camp will feature the same current- and former-NFL athletes who will be at the Golf Scramble. Visit Harris' website for more information on the kids camp. Registration will start at 8:00 am on the day of the camp at Stocker Stadium.
