Maverick Club awards women's tennis & golf teams

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Maverick Club honored Colorado Mesa's women's golf team and women's tennis team on Tuesday.

The two teams each received the $1,500 Champion Award from the Maverick Club for their outstanding performances this spring.

The Mavs women's tennis team won the NCAA Central Region en route to the National Sweet 16, while the women's golf team played in the Div. II National Championship Golf tournament for the first time in school history.

Also honored on Tuesday were CMU's baseball, men's lacrosse, and wrestling teams with $1,000 Champion Award.

The Maverick club also donated $4,000 for 5th-year student scholarships. The scholarships will be split up between eight CMU students-athletes who will be continuing their education for a 5th-year.

Overall, the Maverick Club donated $17,000 this year. In the past two years, the club has given more than $32,000 back to the school, not including this year's donation.
