GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Mavericks didn't necessarily expect to start 2-0 this season.

Let's be real. They did have to face a Top 25 team, Humboldt State, to start the year, and then travel to FCS-member, University of Northern Colorado. However, an 0-3 start was definitely not the record that first year head coach Russ Martin envisioned this summer.

"We felt that it would be a great way to prepare for the RMAC," Martin said on Thursday in regards to the first two weeks of the season.

The Mavs begin RMAC play on Saturday in their home-opener against Chadron State.

"There's always excitement when you get to play at home," commented Martin.

"I think our players will be coming in [on Saturday] with confidence," he said, "and it'll be great to have that home crowd."

Chadron State (1-1) and Colorado Mesa (0-2) kick off on Saturday at 1pm.
