GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The Mavericks started conference play with a doubleheader against the Colorado Christian Cougars, and with that start they brought in two wins.
In the first game, the Mavs came back from a 4-1 deficit after just two innings to defeat the Cougars 9-7. Kevin Mitchell and Colton Little led the team with two runs each.
The second game was a pitching dual. CMU's Matt Williams started the game, pitching for 6.2 innings and registering 9 strikeouts. Garrett Carpenter closed it out. CCU's Travis Mosler pitched through the game only allowing one run, but that was all it took for Mesa to bring home the win 1-0.
