GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The CMU baseball team is going with Aaron Corwin as their No. 1 starting pitcher -- at least to start this season.

Corwin, a right-handed starter, transferred from Texas Tech this year and despite filling in as a reliever at Texas Tech, he'll be returning to his roots as a starter for the Mavs.

"Definitely excited. [I] definitely want to make the most of it," Corwin said before practice on Tuesday.

"It has everything to do with, as we tell the guys, the entire body of work, dating back to August," CMU coach Chris Hanks said about his decision to make Corwin the opening day starter.

Nolan Snell, the RMAC's Preseason Pitcher of the Year, won't make his first start of the year until the third game of the year.

Snell didn't pitch during the fall program for the Mavs due to a tear in his right labrum (shoulder).

"We're nursing him and bringing him back," Hanks said of Snell's recovery.

"I think he's going to be fine," he added.

CMU travels to UC-San Diego on Thursday and they begin their season with a three-day series on Friday.

Between Snell and Corwin in the starting rotation will be right-hander Matt Williams.
