GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. After falling behind in their first two games of the NCAA South Central regional tournament, CMU grabbed a 3-0 lead through the first inning Saturday against West Texas A&M University.
The Buffs made it a game, scoring four in the fifth inning, and two in the seventh, to hold a 6-5 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh, Garrett Woodward cranked a Joshua Weyker pitch over the wall in left field for a three-run homer, and the Mavs re-took the lead 8-6.
They added one more in the eighth inning and go on to win in another comeback 9-6.
Kyle Davis piched 6.2 innings, allowing four earned runs. Tyler Ehlers picks up the win, while Trent Allianic gets the two-inning save.
CMU moves on to play in the championship game Sunday at 12:00. If the Mavs lose that game, they will play again at 3:30.
