"Nice guy" mantra works for Grand Valley MMA fighter

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- Most nicknames in Mixed Martial Arts utilize the intimidation factor. Take for example Rick "The Horror" Story, or Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

One local MMA fighter is going against the norm.

Alex Hayworth says he's always been called a nice guy. So naturally his fighting moniker is "Nice Guys Finish Last."

"He doesn't want to hurt [anybody's] feelings," said Hayworth's coach, Dustin Jensen.

So how does Hayworth flip the switch when he steps into the cage?

"I'm a competitive guy. I don't like to lose and I'll do anything to win," he answered.

"My family ane friends, especially, are quite surprised when they see me in the ring," Hayworth added.

It's a mantra that seems to work, though. The "Nice Guy" is 3-0 in his amateur career.

He'll put that record on the line Saturday night at MMA Fight Night at Two Rivers Convention Center. The event starts at 7pm.
