Orem demolishes Grand Junction in closing game

By  |

OREM, Utah On Wednesday night, the Grand Junction Rockies proved themselves against the top team in the Pioneer League, breaking the Orem Owlz eight-game win streak while holding the high-scoring team to just two runs.

Thursday, however, was a completely different story as Orem demolished Grand Junction 18-4.

The first four batters of the night for the Owlz got a hit off Carlos Polanco. A wild pitch brought in a run. Wendell Soto notched a home run. By the end of the inning, the Owlz had done their damage and taken seven runs off Carlos.

The bottom of the sixth was another rough half for Grand Junction to watch. Orem had their way with nine runs tallying up 18 on the night.

For Grand Junction they came up empty time after time. Michael Bolaski pitched an absolute gem through six innings, allowing just one hit and no runs, while striking out five.

When he took a seat, his relievers allowed Grand Junction some offensive motion, but it wouldn’t be nearly enough to bounce back from the hole they created. The Rockies drop the game 18-4, losing the series three games to one. They drop to 9-9, still second in the Pioneer League South.

The two teams return to Suplizio Field Friday night for the Fourth of July fireworks night. The game starts at 6:30. Doors open at 4:30. Tickets can be purchased through gjrockies.com. No service fee is added.
