GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Wes Rogers was named the Pioneer Player of the Week for his efforts last week, which is great recognition for a young player. But, Pioneer League players are potentially in for a little extra beginning in 2015.
They have announced a partnership with the Northwest League, scheduling an inter-league All-Star Game to be held on August 4th in Spokane, Washington.
The game will feature many of baseball's best prospects from the 16 teams between the two leagues, and Grand Junction Rockies General Manager Tim Ray said having an All-Star Game at this level just makes sense.
"Any time that you have the opportunity to showcase some of the best young talent in the world," Ray said, "you certainly want to do that I think our fans will really embrace this opportunity. You can look at the current Colorado Rockies roster and the majority of those players - 90+ percent of those players on the roster- either started in the Pioneer League or the Northwest League."
