RMAC Tournament: No. 1 seeded Colorado Mesa suffers early elimination

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. All momentum pointed toward the CMU Lady Mavericks softball team. They came away from the final weekend of regular season play going 3-1 and had a little assistance from other teams throughout the conference to earn the right to host the RMAC Tournament.

Mesa held the No. 1 seed but were greeted by a hungry 8-seeded Fort Lewis team that would not back down. They were first to score, took advantage of Colorado Mesa's errors, and as soon as they lost the lead they answered with the runs, taking the first game 14-9.

That left CMU with one final opportunity to play their way through the tournament in hopes of a championship title and automatic bid into the NCAA playoffs. They fell to the losers bracket opposite 5-seed Adams State University but still wouldn't have any luck advancing.

Adams was all over the board through the first five innings, taking a 9-2 lead. CMU had an impressive rally with six runs in the sixth inning, but they couldn't pull ahead, falling 10-8.

The Lady Mavericks dropped out of the tournament, and in turn, had their season come to an end. They finished 27-21 overall.
