GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) Preparations for the 2014 JUCO World Series are already in the works, but one big move that has already been made is securing the year's keynote speaker.
In recent years the banquet has featured Bernie Williams, Don Meyer, and most recently, Rob Miech. In 2014, former Major League Baseball manager Tony La Russa will be the keynote speaker.
Just three days after guiding the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2011 World Series Championship, La Russa announced his retirement.
During his tenure in the MLB, he managed teams to six league championships and three World Series titles. He is third in wins among managers with a 2,728-2,365 record. Now, he's on this year's Hall of Fame ballot.
Next year's pre-tournament banquet is set for Friday, May 23rd. Tickets will be available to the public but will not go on sale until April.
