Western Zones Age Group Championships start Tuesday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Western Zone Swimming Championships take place at the El Pomar Natatorium at CMU from Tuesday-Sunday.

Over 800 swimmers will compete from 13 states in the western region to the United States.

The last time that Grand Junction hosted the 'Zones' was 1999, and that was at Lincoln Park.

This time CMU will display their new high-tech equipment and 10-lane pool.

Some of the event-organizers have referenced this event as the JUCO of youth swimming.

"You have 16 teams staying in hotels, eating [around town], so it's a lot of revenue for the town," said Maverick Acquatics coach Jacob Swinn.

The Maverick Acquatics swim club has two representatives in the meet on the Colorado team.
