Wildcats say they recovered, learned from loss in wk 1

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Fruita Monument Wildcats suffered a devastating, last-minute loss to Douglas County last Thursday.

It was the kind of loss that could break down a team for weeks to come. That's not the case for Fruita, said Coach Sean Mulvey on Wednesday.

"The team has come out focused this week, and we're ready for another shot [to get a win] against Heritage [on Friday]," Mulvey said before practice.

Senior Zac Griggs called the week one loss "heartbreaking," but he says the team discovered something during that defeat.

"We have that ability to have that counter-punch and be there in the end [of the game]," he said.

Fruita is on the road for their first away game on Friday at Heritage High School.
