GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - (KKCO) In their second game with sophomore Sean Rubalcaba back in the lineup the Grand Junction Tigers won a back-and-forth battle in a rivalry game against the Central Warriors 24-21 on Friday night at Stocker Stadium.
The Tigers scored the only points in the fourth quarter with a Tim Saro field goal.
The Warriors were the first to find the endzone thanks to some first quarter trickery. On fourth down and ten yards to go, Holden Reed took the snap on the fake punt and aired it out to Mike Ruble for a first down at the one yard line. Vandon Sanchez would cap off the drive with a one yard touchdown to go up 7-0.
The Tigers then scored the next 14 points in the game thanks to a Rubalcaba 21 yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 47 yard touchdown run by Tyler Winder for the 14-7 lead.
Central would tie the game just before the half when 5'10" 190 pound running back Joe Smith rumbled 42 yards for the equalizing score 14-14.
It only took two plays for the Warriors to score in the second half when Sanchez broke loose on a 80 yard touchdown run to give Central the 21-14 lead.
After a long drive, the Tigers would tie the game up in the final minutes of the third quarter when Jayke Brock converted a fourth down and one situation into a four yard touchdown. Brock rushed for 191 yards in the Tigers win.
Grand Junction (3-5) will be back at home on Friday, October 30 at Stocker Stadium when they face the Montrose Indians (7-1) at 7:00 p.m.
