DELTA, Colo. The Delta Panthers baseball team has had quite the start this season. After two wins against Battle Mountain over the weekend the Panthers improved to 9-0 overall with a 5-0 record in the 4A Western Slope League., including two wins over a tough Rifle team.

Last season the Panthers made it to the second round of the district tournament, the farthest they've advanced during head coach Marty Rover's time at the helm.

Now in his fourth year he's developed a well-rounded team that is on track to make a run at Palisade and overtake the reigning title-holders atop the WSL.

"I think it's always a competitive league," said Coach Rover. "We haven't had a lot of success as far as the state tournament goes, Montrose and Durango have had more success at the state level, so I think us and Palisade and Rifle are trying to take the next step and put the WSL on the map by doing some damage in the state tournament."

"I would say our defense is one of the top in the state," said senior pitcher Keaton Reiher. "We have a very old, old field. I think two junior starters and the rest are seniors, so I would say we have a really strong defense behind our pitchers."

Palisade has three games this week before facing the Palisade Bulldogs Monday, April 8.
