HS Basketball: (3) Tigers Prepare for (2) Poudre

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. After a weekend of rest, the Grand Junction Tigers girls basketball team got back on the court Monday to prepare for second-seeded Poudre, and a shot at the Great Eight.

It seems the question for Grand Junction isn't necessarily how to stop the Impalas, it's how to prevent them from stopping the Tigers.

Poudre was 5A's top-ranked defensive team this season, and in their win over Legend Friday, they only allowed nine points through three quarters of play before a meaningless fourth quarter.

The tigers may have the edge in athleticism on the offensive end. They like to push the pace of the game, while Poudre prefers the slower, half court game.

"They're allowing about 32.5 points per game and we're allowing about 35, so we don't feel like we're that far behind them defensively from them," said head coach Sam Provenza. "You could see a low-scoring defensive battle in this ball game."
