HS Football: (4) Paonia enters into 1A state championship game on Saturday

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Paonia Eagles have put themselves into the spotlight with this year's performance, and it all boils down to this Saturday afternoon - the 1A state championship game at Paonia Town Park.

The last time the Eagles were in a championship game Jackie Robinson was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. It was 1962. As for Centauri, they've never even made an appearance in a title game, so both these teams are eager to bring home the coveted trophy.

These two faced off early in the season when the Falcons got the best of the Eagles with a 27-14 victory. Ironically enough, it went down as Paonia's only loss of the season, and now they meet again.

The game takes place this Saturday at 1:00 at Paonia Town Park. Both teams put out an upset over the top two ranked teams in the semifinals. KKCO 11 Sports will have highlights and post-game reaction Saturday evening at 5:30 and 10:00.
