GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Zero week is finally here for high school football, as we have a handful of games being played Friday night on the western slope.

Perhaps the most anticipated game is when Grand Junction travels down to face former SWL opponent Montrose.

In times past, this would have been the premier match-up in the Southwestern league, but the Tigers now belong to the 5A South Metro league.

The Tigers now have a brand new set of teams to scout and prepare for, and the hope is that it will solve the seeding problem they've faced in the past when the post-season rolls around: the western slope bias.

"I'm excited about playing Denver schools and being in a 5A conference." head coach Robbie Owens said. "Hopefully our kids come in and compete and we can show those kids on the other side of the mountain that we can do it eve in a 5A conference."
