GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. With the new year comes fresh starts for many, but for the Grand Junction girls basketball team, it was all about keeping their hot finish from 2013.
The 9-0 Tigers had a strong opponent in 4A's Pueblo West Cyclones on Friday night, providing some of the best competition the Tigers have seen.
It was a back-and-forth game, and it would come down to the fourth quarter. Pueblo West send the Tigers to the free throw line, and that's where they stacked up some points for leverage, taking the win 48-42.
"We've played a lot of games, and we weren't sure how good we were," said head coach Sam Provenza. "We just played a really good basketball team right there. We feel pretty good about it right now but again it gets tougher every time. We have two more tough games next week, but this prepares us for our league and it prepares us to be on the league."
