GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) The Grand Junction High School volleyball team has earned a spot in the 5A regional tournament.
It's a huge mark for this group of girls because in the past three years they tallied up just two league wins, settling for last place in the conference, unable to break through to the post-season.
This year is a different story. The Lady Tigers finished fourth in the SWL and earned their way into the 2013 regional tournament set to take place this Saturday at their rival school - Fruita Monument.
Though they enter as the 27th seed - opposite 10th seed Fruita and 15th seed Fort Collins - they're not doubting their abilities.
"This team has come a long way," said senior Courtney Gopinath. "I'm new this year, but I really love everyone on the team, and I think we can do really well at regionals.
"Our team's pretty confident that we can do good and hold our own against some of these really high ranked teams," said freshman Tia Wright.
"We came a long ways," said senior Kayla Roberts. "We're really excited about it, and we're happy to be the first team to make it."
Grand Junction's first game will be Saturday at 9:00 AM against Fruita Monument, followed by their second game against Fort Collins at 11:00 AM.
