GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. The 2014 All-State wrestling teams were announced on Tuesday, and the Western Slope had quite a few representatives following their championship wins at the state level.
In 5A, Grand Junction junior Jacob Trujillo repeated at state and in turn qualified for the All-State team in the 160's. He missed out on the All-Colorado team at the hands of Broomfield senior Phil Downing who became the 17th wrestler in history to pull off a four-peat.
Palisade and Montrose missed out on the 4A All-State selections, but in 3A Olathe senior Trenton Piatt had one sweet victory in the 120's, going out his final season on top after landing in 2nd and 4th place the last two seasons. Piatt finished a perfect 35-0 on his way to class 3A's 2014 All-State team.
In 2A, it was pure domination from Paonia - the team that easily landed the team win. All five athletes who wrestled their way to the state match earned the title and an All-State selection.
Jesse Reed, a junior who will look to 4-peat next season, finished a perfect 40-0 in the 126's. He was also named 2A's Wrestler of the Year. While sophomore Bo Pipher, senior Ty Coats, junior Zach Milner, and senior Tony Darling were also selected to the All-State team in their respective weight class. Paonia's coach Andy Pipher was named 2A's Coach of the Year
