GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The buzzer beater: it can only invoke one of two things: utter heartbreak, or uncontrollable joy.

For the (5)Palisade Bulldogs, it was the former. A failed inbound pass from Luke McLean to Skyler Miller ended up in the hands of Wheat Ridge's Danny Allen with 2.2 seconds on the clock in the fourth quarter on Wednesday.

With the Bulldogs ahead by one point, Allen quickly set his feet and heaved up a prayer from the sideline in front of his own bench.

The high arching shot found a home in the bottom of the net as the final buzzer sounded and (12)Wheat Ridge rushed to the middle of the court to celebrate a 55-53 victory in the first round of the 4A state playoffs.

Elsewhere in the 4A boys bracket, (10)Montrose defeated Rifle 56-46. The Indians will travel to (2)Broomfield on Friday.
