Top 12 of 2012: Cedaredge wins State Championship

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The year 2012 gave sports fans all across the state of Colorado something to remember.

Whether it was Peyton Manning becoming a Bronco or, for Western Slope sports fans, the Cedaredge Bruins winning their first state football championship, there's a lot to talk about if you're counting down the best of 2012.

Follow KKCO 11 Sports' roundtable discussion with Jamie Hamilton, Mike Krueger, Jim Davis and Greg Wentzel on what they say is the Top 12 Stories of 2012.

Under the list of KKCO 11 Sports Director Phil Stafford, the best sports story of the year 2012 was the incredible turnaround of the State Champion Cedaredge football team.

The Bruins were 4-6 in 2011, and they hadn't been to the playoffs since 2002.

This season, however, 8-1 by the end of the regulars season and the third seed in the Class 1A playoffs.

The Bruins continued to roll through the playoffs even with their starting quarterback, Dante Markley, missing the semifinal game due to a concussion.

The Bruins beat top-seeded Buena Vista 18-16 on Nov. 24th for their first state football title in school history.
