GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- No. 9 Shelton State shutout No.3 Polk State to survive Tuesday.
The Buccaneers looked to make amends after their 13-3 loss to Gordon College. While the Eagles from Polk State were just as motivated after losing their previous game to Jefferson College.
Both teams played well defensively, until Shelton managed to score a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. After that, the Buccaneers offense began to run like a well-oiled machine. Two runs were scored in both the bottom of the fifth and seventh innings to extend the lead to five. Shelton later added an insurance run in the eighth to stamp the win. Five errors from the Eagles also contributed to Shelton's victory.
Shelton's starting pitcher, Alex Aultman, pitched six innings, struck out six, and gave up four hits on the day.
Shelton State advances in the elimination bracket and will play on Wednesday at 3pm.
Polk State was eliminated from the 2012 Junior College World Series as a result of the loss.
