GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- (1) Iowa Western kept their JUCO dreams alive by beating (7) Spartanburg Methodist in Game 5. Iowa Western dropped their first game against San Jacinto on Saturday, but they were able to bounce back against the Pioneers.
Andy Roberts of Iowa Western pitched six and one-third innnings. He struck out seven and allowed only one run on six hits. Pascal Paul closed out game for the Reivers, posting a strikeout and giving up just one hit.
Spartanburg scored a run in the top of the seventh inning, but were unable to rally. SMC lost their first game against Neosho County, and as a result of Sunday's loss, the Pioneers out of South Carolina are the first team to be eliminated from the 2012 JUCO World Series.
Iowa Western advances in the elimination bracket and will play their next game on Monday at 10am.
