GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The Gordon Highlanders had to wait one extra day to get their turn in the bright lights of Suplizio Field, but it was well worth it.
No. 10 Gordon's bats came out in fashion for 13 runs off of 11 hits in only 6 innings of play versus the Buccaneers.
Alex Milazzo started the game for No. 9 Shelton State, but he struggled to consistently find the strikezone. Milazzo held a 1.34 ERA during the 2012 seaon, but that didn't help him on Sunday night. He was relieved by Steven Glasgow after facing only two batters in the 2nd inning. Both of those batters crushed solo homeruns to right field giving the Highlanders a 3-0 lead at that time.
Gordon added one more run on a sacrifice fly before finishing that half-inning.
Not to be outdone, the Bucs responded for 3 runs in the top half of the 4th. However, that's when Jeb Dills buckled down to limit Shelton to 2 hits in the last 2 innings.
No. 10 Gordon continues on in the winners' bracket to face the winner of Monday's matchup between No. 2 Jefferson College and No. 3 Polk State. That leaves the Highlanders with a break until Tuesday.
No. 9 Shelton St. falls into the elimination bracket. Their next game is against the loser of the Jefferson/Polk State contest. Therefore, the Bucs also have Monday off.
