GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- In a back and forth battle, No. 1 Iowa Western survived day 3 of the JUCO World Series thanks to a 2-run shot over the left field wall by freshman Iseha Conklin.
The go-ahead homer for the Reivers was hit in the top of the 9th with 2 outs. Conklin said after the game that he can't remember which pitch he saw, but got a good enough look at it to get a clean swing.
The homer scored Tanner Kreitemeier, who reached on an error by the Wildcats second baseman Zach Hendrix. Hendrix didn't get a clean field on the ball after it ricocheted off the glove of No. 6 Western Nevada's pitcher Anthony Consiglio.
The loss by the Wildcats eliminates them from the tournament, while the Reivers advance to play the loser of Monday night's matchup between No. 8 San Jacinto and No. 5 Neosho County.
Highlights of the game will be on tonight's 5:30 newscast on KKCO 11 News!
