GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The No.2 Jefferson College Vikings outlasted the No.3 Polk State Eagles in a game filled with offense on Monday.
The Vikings seized an early lead by scoring six runs in the first two innings. They later added scores in the fourth, seventh, and eigth innings.
Polk State was held scoreless until the bats came alive in the last four innings. The Eagles managed to score five runs in those innings to make the game interesting, but Jefferson's closer Travis Hayes put an end to the comeback.
Jefferson College advances in the winners' bracket and will play against Gordon College at 7:30pm on Tuesday.
Polk State moves into the elimination bracket and will face Shelton State at 11:30am on Tuesday.
