GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. Teams that qualified for the 2014 Junior College World Series are slowly trickling into Grand Junction.
One of the first things they check out is Suplizio Field, and it's up to the Grand Junction Parks and Rec crew to get it ready for the start of game play.
A lot of work goes on behind the scenes, but Suplizio Field is always front and center on full display for ten of the best teams in Junior College baseball.
The city parks and rec 6-man crew works countless hours to make sure the field looks its best, especially after having Colorado Mesa's regional tournament just days prior.
From cleaning every seat in the stands, to hanging banners, to painting logos, to mowing those perfect patters into the grass, it's a big task that must be done to the "T."
"It's nationally televised," said Eddie Mort, supervisor for GJ Parks and Rec. "You have players from all over the country, and probably all over the world...but it's our way to showcase Grand Junction and our facility, and we try to keep it a great facility for everyone no matter if it's the Mavericks or the Junior College players or whatever else. We're here to put our best forward and have a safe playable field."
The Junior College World Series kick off Saturday, May 24th.
