She’s back, again. Amanda Wagner returns to the Western Slope as the Anchor of 11 News at 11, and as the News Director for KKCO 11 News.
She’s no stranger to the news business, in fact she’s been involved in one aspect or another for almost 10 years now. Amanda worked at KKCO as a production assistant during high school and fell in love with the fast-paced environment of a newsroom.
After graduating from Fruita Monument High School, Amanda left the Western Slope, but didn’t go too far. She attended the University of Colorado at Boulder and graduated with Dean's List honors from the School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
After internships in Denver at KCNC CBS 4 and KDVR Fox 31 and graduation, Amanda returned to the Grand Valley as the Anchor of 11 News Today. After two years, Amanda felt she should see what else was out in the world. Amanda jumped at the chance to move to Madison, Wis. and work as a Reporter/Weekend Anchor.
The experience wasn’t what she had expected or hoped for. “It’s true, sometimes you don’t know what you have until it’s gone,” explains Wagner. It didn’t take long for Amanda to realize that her priorities were in Western Colorado, where her family and friends were. “I want the news I cover to affect me, and my family. Working at 11 News I care about the stories in our newscasts and the people they affect, I didn’t have that personal connection working away from home.”
