Grand Junction may not be the largest city in Colorado, but it’s awful big compared to Zach Kerker’s hometown of Mendon, Il which now sports a booming population of 900.
He moves to the western slope from Springfield, IL where he worked for WICS Channel 20 as a news/sports photographer and a part time sports reporter
Zach attended college at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville where he received his bachelors degree in Mass Communication. Within days of arriving at SIUE he was working for WSIE-FM, a radio station located on campus.
There he served as a news and sports anchor and spent much of his time covering the St. Louis Cardinals, Blues and Rams. Zach also put in time for Fox Sports Radio, Westwood One Radio, Illinois Radio Networks and Missouri Metro Networks. His duties ranged from giving national in-game updates to setting up interviews for the Chris Myers’ Show.
During college he interned at 1120 AM-KMOX in St. Louis; The Scottrade Center, home of the St. Louis Blues; and with WICS which helped land him his first professional job in broadcasting.
Zach has had the privilege of interviewing a number of influential sports figures, ranging Albert Pujols and Tony Dungy to Lou Brock, but says that telling sports stories on a smaller, local level is just as satisfying. He is an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Tennessee Titans, Penn State Nittany Lions football and University of Illinois Basketball.
