Sam comes to KKCO from Salt Lake City where he worked for four years with the number one station in the market, KSL Channel 5.
He started at KSL as a sports intern during his sophomore year of college at Utah Valley State College in Orem, Utah. After receiving his Associates Degree in Mass Communications from UVSC, Sam transferred to the University of Utah where he studied broadcast journalism and continued his work at KSL as an assistant sports producer, as well as a member of the production crew. He graduated from the “U” in 2005 with a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communication/Electronic Journalism.
From March 2005 through May 2006, Sam also volunteered with the UVSC Sports Information Department where he performed the play-by-play for the Wolverines baseball and women’s basketball teams on the Internet/radio broadcasts.
“It was on a career day at my junior high school when a news anchor from one of the Salt Lake City stations came and talked about the broadcasting business. She caught my attention and that was when I realized that if I can’t be a professional athlete, being a sports broadcaster just might be the next best thing," Sam says.
Sam has lived a majority of his life in Orem, Utah and still claims Orem as his home. He has two older brothers and one younger brother, all are married and have children.
In his free time he likes to play any sport, workout, snowboard, camp, fish, and swim. He is also Tri-Lingual, speaking English, Portuguese and Spanish. He learned Portuguese while living in Brazil for two years as a missionary for the LDS Church, and has been able to learn enough Spanish since returning to be able to communicate at a basic level.
