GRAND JUNCTION - The Mesa State Mavericks improved to 3-0 at home with 14-5 and 6-5 wins over the University of New Haven Chargers on Saturday.
Andrew Martinez drove in four runs to lead the Mavs who rallied for a six run 5th inning and a five run eighth.
Chris Carma improved to 2-1 with the win in game one.
The night cap proved to be a much closer game. The Chargers scored three runs in the 6th inning of the seven inning affair to tie the game at five. But Freshman Joe Schmidtbauer drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh to give the Mavs a 6-5 victory.
Brent Lamaster pitched 1.2 innings of relief to get the win.
