Update: Rockslide May be Cause of Earthquake Readings Near Palisade

Preliminary reports from the National Earthquake Information Center in Golden confirms there was a 2.6 magnitude earthquake about 6 miles south of Palisade at 5:44am.

11 News Live Today first reported there was a second rockslide on the Bookcliffs near Palisade this morning just before 6:00am.

It is still unclear if the rockslide triggered the readings reported by the National Earthquake Information Center.

This follows a rockslide that happened last night around 6:00pm.
NBC 11 News is investigating whether another earthquake occured last night.

Rocks did not reach I-70 for either rockslide, but they came close.
This morning around 6:00, a witness reported seeing a rockslide around 'ten times bigger.' At first authorities thought the dust was smoke from a fire.

It was in the same area as the one that happened not 24 hours before.
The huge cloud of dust covered the Interstate, and cars had to slow down to drive through the mess.

The highway remained open. C-DOT rushed to the scene, and is now investigating.

NBC 11 News will be covering this story throughout the day.
