According to the Mesa County Sheriff's Office, 14 year old Brandon Taulbee became separated from his family around 8:00 last night. Dana Brost says her son Brandon had left the campsite to go for a hike.

About a dozen Search & Rescue members made it up to the area near the Vega Resevoir by 1:00am and began looking for him.

Brandon was found around 4:00am in good condition, but a little thirty. Brandon says when he initially got lost, he panicked-then he realized he just needed to stay in one spot and he'd be found. He says he could hear his family and rescuers calling for him, but it was too windy to determine their location.

So far in 2009, there've been 36 Search and Rescue missions in Mesa County. There were 49 missions in 2008, 40 missions in 2007, 54 missions in 2006, and 44 missions in 2005.

The Mesa County Sheriff's Office says it's very concerned about river safety right now, and wants to remind everyone to use life vests, and avoid alcohol on the water.
