CLINTON, Arkansas (AP) - The County Sheriff's Office says Rodney Lee Jones escaped Wednesday morning. Jones is serving a life prison sentence without the possibility of parole.
Prosecutors said during Jones' trial that he drove from Colorado to Van Buren County is September 2008 and shot 33 year old Orzona Fischer to death in the home she shared with her three children and new husband.
Authorities have said Fischer was shot as she cut her new husband's hair.
In the days after the shooting, Jones was arrested in the Denver suburb of Thornton and extradited to Arkansas. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Investigators say he may be headed back to Colorado, where he has family.
