DENVER, Colo. (KKCO) - Security is tight at the Colorado State Capitol in advance of today's gubernatorial inauguration.

11 News Reporter Tim Ciesco is at the capitol right now and says the inauguration of Governor-Elect John Hickenlooper begins at 10:30 a.m.

Hickenlooper has a billion-dollar budget to deal with. But his first order of business after giving his inaugural address is lunch with about 300 school children.

Hickenlooper is having lunch with Lt. Gov. Joe Garcia and the pupils from across Colorado who entered a contest. The school children sent in projects designed to show innovation and their knowledge of local history.

Ciesco says there are dozens of security members combing the Capitol grounds. He says security officials told him they haven't put any additional safety procedures in the wake of Saturday's shooting in Tuscon, but they have given their procedures more thought.

At least four canine units are being used to sniff out possible threats.
