International Female Ride Day

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) - The first Friday in May is International Female Ride Day. It gives female riders a chance to show solidarity through the bond of two wheels.

Whether on the blacktop or in the dirt, more women are on motorbikes.

“When I was a little kid, I used to, my idol was Ty Davis. I used to watch him get on a factory ride and go ride each day and come back and I wanted his lifestyle,” said Christel Allen, who has been a Women’s A Racer previously before becoming a full pro this year.

“It’s definitely picked up since, it seems like when I’ve first started working here,” said Traci Stapleton. She’s been working at Grand Junction Harley Davidson for almost ten years.

There isn’t an organized ride in Grand Junction this year, but there should be one in the future. Angie Bertrand is the owner of a start up business specializing in riding apparel for women. She has plans to offer more to female bikers.

“And I just found out about it last year. And the truth was, I was going to do, Curvy Riders was going to sponsor an event. But I ran out of time, frankly. So Curvy Riders will actually sponsor an event for international female ride day next year. It comes the first Friday of May. And what people are asked is to simply come out and ride their scoots. It doesn't matter what brand, it doesn't matter what model you have. But they want the female camaraderie in us to be out in force. To say yeah, women are out on the road,” said Bertrand.
