The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker

GRAND JUNCTION, COLO. (KKCO) - The butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker.

As there are different versions of the nursery rhyme, there are many purveyors of the mentioned products.

Yet there are businesses in the Grand Valley that follow their traditional roots, concentrating on their craft as much as the bottom line.

“I like to say if there is a harder way to do it I’ll find it," said Mary Lincoln, Slice O’ Life bakery in Palisade.

The business owners here are not simply that, but have honed their craft over time, turning labor into something more.

“Being a butcher is a trade just like anything. You need to spend a lot of time, it takes anywhere from five to seven years to really learn to be a butcher. So, you really, it's just like any trade, you really need to be dedicated to it. And try to follow it through,” said Rick Nehm, Old World Meats.

“This is my hobby, this is my passion. And my obsession,” said Victoria Wallette, Summit Sensations.

Old World Meats are located at 1765 Main St., Grand Junction. Slice O’ Life bakery at 105 W 3rd St., Palisade. Summit Sensations can be found at the Fruita and Grand Junction Farmers Market, as well as online at www.summitsensations.com.

I will never take my wild game back to old world... you never get your meat back and last time it tasted rotten after being processed
